Most upholstery shops specialise. We learned the trade the old way — apprenticed in a UK antique-restoration family business, then broadened into custom furniture, automotive retrims, marine fit-outs and commercial commissions over 25 years in New Zealand.

For Daniel, upholstery has been a life-long passion. He joined a family business at a local antique furniture restoration shop in the UK, learning the trade hands-on alongside masters of the craft. In 2000 he moved to New Zealand and continued working on furniture recoveries, while designing and building custom pieces of his own.
Over time he broadened his skills to include automotive upholstery and commercial fit-outs, and has spent years working on boat interiors and covers along Auckland's harbours. The Upholstery Company was established in 2012 as the home for that complete range of work.

Daniel handles every project personally — from the first phone call and the on-site quote, through to the final fitting. When you bring a piece in, you talk to the person who's going to work on it.

We collect from across the greater Auckland area and return finished pieces to you. Standard charges may apply outside the immediate North Shore.

Yes. Full vehicle re-trims are part of our automotive service alongside hood linings, door panels, dashboards, automotive carpets, motorbike seats, tonneau covers and caravan refits.
Almost always — for furniture with sentimental or design value, restoration is usually much better than throwing it out. We'll give you an honest view of what's involved before any work begins.
Yes — we handle full commercial fit-outs, suite expansions, banquette seating, custom bed headboards and bespoke furniture design for hospitality, retail and office environments.
Covered — we make new canopies, clears, road covers, storage covers and stone guards, and replace zips and fastenings on existing covers. Custom squabs, marine carpet and hull linings are also part of the marine service.
